Which birth pool is right for me?

Which birth pool is right for me?

June 07, 2023

Choosing the best pool for your needs will depend on:

  • The space you have available for your pool.
  • Whether your partner plans to join you in the pool.
  • Hot water supply.
  • Water pressure / filling time.

Aquabub has 5 different pools available for hire:

  1. Birth Pool in a Box Regular Professional.
  2. Birth Pool in a Box Regular Personal
  3. Birth Pool in a Box Mini Professional.
  4. Birth Pool in a Box Mini Personal.
  5. La Bassine.

Here is a thorough breakdown of each birth pool, it's size and features, and tips to help you choose which pool is right for you.

Regular

The Birth Pool in a Box Regular Personal and Professional pools are the biggest pools.  They are the same size and shape as each other and have all the same features.  The only difference is the Regular Professional is made of a thicker plastic, which makes it sturdier.  Both pools are specifically designed for birthing in.

These larger pools are a good choice if your partner plans to join you in the pool, and if you have no concerns with hot water supply, water pressure / filling time, and if you have plenty of space available for your pool.

Measurements:

External size: 193cm x 165cm

Internal size: 142cm x 114cm

Height of pool wall: 69cm

Depth of water: 58cm

Water volume: 650 litres at 80% full.  Equivalent to approximately 3 – 4 standard bathtubs.

Features: Opaque walls, blue, Inflatable floor, egg shape, inflatable seat, cup holder, 6 ergonomically placed handles.

Mini

The Birth Pool in a Box Mini Personal and Professional pools are smaller pools.  They are the same size and shape as each other and have all the same features.  The only difference is the Mini Professional is made of a thicker plastic, which makes it sturdier.  Both pools are specifically designed for birthing in.

These smaller pools are a good choice if your partner isn't planning on joining you in the pool (although there is room for two if you are both of small build), if you are concerned about running out of hot water, if your water pressure is low (filling the pool will take longer if you have low water pressure), if you have limited space available for your pool or if you have a history of, or are expecting, a quick labour. These Mini pools hold about 35% less water than the Regular sized pools.

Measurements:

External size: 165cm x 145cm

Internal size: 114cm x 94cm

Height of pool wall: 66cm

Depth of water: 55cm

Water volume: 480 litres at 80% full.  Equivalent to approximately 2 - 3 standard bathtubs.

Features: Opaque walls, blue, Inflatable floor, egg shape, inflatable seat, cup holder, 6 ergonomically placed handles.

La Bassine

The La Bassine pool is the smallest.  These pools have very similar external measurements, but a thinner wall than the Mini, meaning the space inside the pool is maximised.

The La Bassine is a good choice if your partner isn't planning on joining you in the pool (although there is room for two if you are both of small build), if you are concerned about running out of hot water, if your water pressure is low (filling the pool will take longer if you have low water pressure), if you have limited space available for your pool or if you have a history of, or are expecting, a quick labour.  These pools hold about 45% less water than the Birth Pool in a Box Regular.

Measurements:

External size: 170cm x 135cm

Internal size: 125cm x 95cm

Height of pool wall: 65cm

Depth of water: 51cm

Water volume: 450 litres at 80% full.  Equivalent to approximately 2.5 standard bathtubs.

Features: Clear walls, blue, oval shape, inflatable floor, 2 handles.
